My inclination is to think of a fungal or
perhaps even bacterial infection, though
I guess there is a chance of something
with a genetic aspect IF they are closely
related and a major coincidence in
timing happened. I can't see the
photo clearly, though.

Here is a previous post with a range of
skin problems mentioned with links
but many simply won't fit, especially
with two having the problem simultaneously.
