This is a great post Sukie.=A0 Too many times I hear of people taking in al=
l young ferrets (whether adopting or whatever), they think they are doing a=
good thing, but you just know down the line they are going to be hit proba=
bly around the same time with a number of ferrets coming down with the top =
three ferret diseases.=A0 One of the first things that I stress to unknowle=
dgeable ferret people, is that ferret vet care is *expensive*.=A0 And I tot=
ally understand what Sukie wrote about (the vets having their own costs).=
=A0 You just cant get around it - ferrets are not cheap pets.=A0 People jus=
t need to remember to think long-term down the line, plan out things, and t=
hink ahead.=A0

Yes, its definately good to adopt, but if you cant afford to *long term*, t=
hen you are not only doing harm to the new adoptees, but you're also doing =
harm to the pets already in your care.=A0
=A0
One idea that may help people, and its worked really well for myself, is to=
have a ferret savings.=A0 Each week, I put **at least** $10=A0aside for my=
ferret account.=A0 If that means no Dunkin' Donuts or no take-out pizza or=
new shoes or whatever, so be it.=A0 That money is for *nothing but* ferret=
=A0vet care.=A0 Does it always cover the entire vet bill?=A0 Nope.=A0 But a=
t least I have some cash reserved for the bill, and then I only have to cha=
rge so much.=A0

This has worked well for me, and maybe it'll help some others too.
