In the UK there is only one company that will insure ferrets and they
are very expensive and only provide cover until the animal is 5 years
old, just when they are most likely to need vet care.
I always recommend people do what you suggest. I have a separate
account and have set up a monthly transfer so the money goes out with
all the bills, so far as I am concerned it is gone, until I get a vet
bill and find the account is nice and plump.
So far I have been very lucky with my animals and vet bills have been
small, i cover those out of regular income, but it is comforting to
know that I won't be bankrupted if something unexpected comes up.
