I am by no means an expert on lymphoma, but I currently am fostering
a ferret from FerretsFirst Rescue in Annandale, VA who had a pea-sized
chin lump removed about four months ago that came back positive for
lymphoma. Caesar is about five years old. After the pathology report
came in our exotics vet referred us to a veterinary oncology
specialist in Gaithersburg, MD who was involved in the development of
the Tufts protocol. Caesar was examined and based on his overall
excellent condition (aside from the lymphoma, of course) he was placed
on a modified oral version of the Tufts protocol. His protocol began
with two weeks of 0.5 CC of 2 mg/ml Leukeran and 2.5 CC 1 mg/ml
Prednisolone once each day for two weeks, then every other day,
ongoing. Caesar has to go in for a CBC and exam every 30 days to watch
for bone marrow function issues and other potential side effects.
There is no way to cure the lymphoma, but the prognosis is good for
him to live a normal ferret life span.

I should note that Caesar's lymphoma was described as the "slow
moving" kind, so this information may not be applicable to your Perla.
It may be possible that using Leukeran in addition to the Pred that
your vet suggested could help slow the progression more. I don't know.

If you'd like more information feel free to contact me off list.

Best of luck to you and Perla,

Jack
