I would love to know who came up with those amounts, and what they
based them on. I don't see how that could even be possible. I don't
think I have EVER spent even %5,000 on a single ferret, much less an
AVERAGE of $7-10,000 per ferret. Even considering those who have come
to me older (which is when their higher vet costs would occur), I can't
get there. I have owned ferrets for about 16 years and have probably
had 60-70 over that time. That would mean that I would have spent over
a half million dollars in ferret care. Nowhere close.....
If I had to come up with a ballpark, it would be closer to about $1,500-
2,000 average per ferret over its lifetime, some much higher and many
much lower..
For the record, I have annual check-ups, regularly vaccinate, have
dentals done, regularly do adrenal surgeries and any other surgeries
needed, Lupron injections, etc. so I don't think I skimp on vet care at
all.
Could you find out where your vet got this information, Ardith?
Thanks
Katharine
