I also found $7000.00 - 10,000.00 to be a conservative amount.

So I did some number crunching and totalled the vet bills for each of my
personal ferrets and on average it costs me $2000.00/year/ferret in
veterinary bills. The least amount I've spent in a year on veterinary
costs for one ferret was $1500.00, the most to date $4000.00 for one
ferret in one year. I averaged these costs for 10 ferrets.

That includes 6 surgeries in 4 ferrets, but does not include all
medications, some of which I have to get at a pharmacy.

Then there are the rescues/surrenders who for the most part come with
numerous health issues and so costs tend to run higher per ferret. We
do get a 10% discount for the rescue ferrets' veterinary care, which
does not even cover the cost of the sales tax on services.

These are not outrageous figures for veterinary care in our area but the
norm for 'exotics' - like ferrets.
