You are talking about only your personal experience. Like me, you do
provide the best care you possibly can, but of ALL the ferret owners
out there, I would suspect those of us who do are the exception,
rather than the rule. When you consider all the ferret owners who
provide little, to no vet care, and compare that to the ones who
provide everything possible, I just don't see how the AVERAGE in this
country can be $7-10,000 per ferret. For that to work, there would
have to be a whole lot of ferret owners spending upwards of $30, 40,
50, or even $60,000 on each individual ferret.
I just don't see it. Every day we see people begging for donations
for their ferrets. Do you think they are spending $7-10,000 on each
ferret? They don't even have the funds for a $500 procedure.
I may be completely wrong. That is why I asked Ardith to ask her vet
where this information came from. I have dealt with numbers and
statistics for many years and am prone to question statements like
the one made.
Maybe I'll ask my vet if he has any way to come up with an average
for each ferret in his practice.
