Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret bloody nose - staggering - HARD breathing
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi;
I just received a call from a couple who have adopted several ferrets
from me over the last 10 years.
The reason for the call is that they just returned home and found one
of the ferrets lying on top of his hammock and breathing very hard. He
had a drop of blood in his left nostril - when cleaned he was not
bleeding, but his breathing was still very labored. During the call
they noticed that he began staggering and falling to his left.
They wanted to know what could be wrong. I told them what I could think
of: fall in cage, burst tumor (Especially in the lungs), heartworms.
I've never heard of cardiomyopathy or insulinoma causing bleeding from
the nose - has anyone else... also what can you think of or have you
experienced that would match these symptoms? They are going to get him
to an emergency clinic, but around here emergency clinics often are not
comfortable seeing/treating ferrets and not too pretty good diagnosing
ferrets.
Please reply to my addy as I am on digest and wouldn't get replies
until tomorrow - any reply can be shared with the group as well.
