Kim, It was determined by the vet that the bottle of vaccine was bad simply because my ferrets had had no prior issues wit h vaccinations, they are all from different lineages and all different ages. the bottle was labeled Furvac-D Lot fH02-ZI01. After we were able to get my ferrets under control to make sure that they would all survive, our vet said that she would not use any more of the vaccine in that lot for ferrets. She wrote the company, and I followed up with a letter to the company also stating the events. It was not very long after all this happened that Furvac-D was taken from the market. I am not sure if what happened to me and my little babies had anything to do with the decision the company made to discontinue, but if it saved even a few ferrets, then I'm glad to have written the letter. I never got any feedback from the manufacturer as to what could have gone wrong, or if there was improper care of the vaccine. Since I got no feedback, it's imp
ossible for me to say what we could have done preventative wise. (I did not mention that I had given them benadryl 45 min. prior to the immunization. It may have been the only thing to save them, with the intensity of the reaction.) I don't know if this helps, but I hope it does.

[Moderator's Note: United's vaccine, Fervac-D, had a history
of more problems than Merial Purevax, and United was having
its own problems which led to the discontinuation of multiple
products.]
