Subject: [ferrethealth] DMK ferret grinding teeth, no appetite
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have a DMK ferret who is grinding his teeth, wants to just sleep,
squinty eyes, does not want to eat. I got him to the vet today as I
know how quickly ferrets go downhill. I know he is either sick to his
tummy or in pain. I am thinking maybe the latter as I have been
carafating him as well as using Pepcid AC. A exam was done, palpatated
his abdomen, checked mouth, teeth, temp, etc. nothing really sticks
out. His poops are a bit loose but somewhat formed. A blood panel was
done and I will not know the results till tomorrow. I have been
syringe feeding him and he will want to eat but seems as though the
nausea or pain is holding him back. I go into a total panic when one
of my kids gets sick and I always fear the worse, hoping for the best.
He weighs 3 3/4 pounds and is a gorgeous champagne with a beautiful
coat. I am beyond anxious trying to figure out what is wrong with him
and what I can do to make him feel better. Does anyone have any ideas
what may be going on? or maybe ferret had the same thing going on? No
weight loss as of yet.

My vet did put him on metronydazole tablets which I just started this
afternoon right after my vet visit.
