What are you syringe feeding your guy?
I went through something similar with one of our ferrets (he's not a DMK)=
=A0this fall.=A0 Our vet prescribe some pain medicine along with the pepcid=
, carafate and antibiotics.=A0 I can't remember the name of the stuff.=A0 W=
e gave it to our ferret orally.
Also remember to give your carafate well separate from the other meds. as i=
t coats the digestive tract and may interfere with absorption of the other =
meds.=A0 I usually start with the pepcid about 30 minutes before the antibi=
otic.=A0 I then give the antibiotic, wait another 30 minutes and follow wit=
h the carafate, I then feed the ferret about 15 minutes after I give the ca=
rafate.
Be sure you kid has access to water from a bowl.=A0 Sick ferrets won't drin=
k from their water bottle.
It took our guy a while to start eating on kibble on his own again.=A0 Just=
be patient, and keep working with your vet.
Take Care,
Ann

[Moderator's Note:
also remember that while syringe feeding is very useful
when finger feeding will not work (which luckily is not
very often) it does have risks if it is not done right. If
the ferret inhales the food aspiration pneumonia can
happen and that can be very difficult to deal with. The
list vets have asked us to remind people that syringe
feeding is a skill to learn hands on from the treating
vet or the vet's staff to minimize risks.]
