Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with Lymphoma, now hind-end weakness
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi, Judy, and everyone else,
I left part of your post intact below so people can see the part I am
responding to.
Yes, I've seen this before exactly as you describe it with my ferret Ker
Avon. This is terrible news. The lymphoma is in Perla's spine. With
poor Ker Avon the paralysis progressed upwards in a matter of days. We
took him to two vets, posted here on FHL (it's in the archives), got a
little cart to help him get around once he completely lost the use of
his hind legs. He became incontinent. Perhaps a week to 10 days after
this started we rushed Avon back to the vet. He had difficulty
breathing because the creeping paralysis was reaching his lungs.
We let him go rather than let him suffer and die slowly.
My advice: keep Perla as comfortable as you can, show her lots of love,
and make arrangements with your vet so that if things get really
uncomfortable off hours you have where to take her.
I wish I could say something more encouraging. I'm truly sorry.

Perla....hind end weakness now
[edit]
Until yesterday. She started to limp on her right hind leg. At first
it was a hop, and then she was actually holding it up in the air. She
is able to scratch using it....and was able to stand on her hind legs.
He vet is away till Friday. Today, it was both legs she was limping
on. I thought I could feel an inflamed lymph node on each side in the
back, but could not feel it again later.
As the night goes on, she becomes more weak in the hind area.
