Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:canine either gone or broken above the gum line
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
When I first got Babs from my vet (a rescue - wandering loose
somewhere 12/05 - possibly 2yo or so), we noticed she had a right upper
canine that was completely yellowish brown. Vet said tooth was dead,
but it did not seem to be causing a problem, so leave it in place.
Sometime in the week before the vet visit in Jan 2008 (I
don't always clean teeth routinely, but look in mouths every few
days)we saw the tooth was gone, no sign of blood or trauma. The vet
said it must have just broken off - the area was a little pink and no
tooth showed below the gum line. After reading Sukie's post in the
digest today I searched for Babs and hauled out of her latest sleeping
spot in a sweater in my bedroom closet and examined/felt her gum line.
There's still a small raised spot in the gum which looks like just a
final tiny remnant of the tooth but a year later it's hard to see
where the tooth was - apart from the space.
