X-rays don't generally show an obstruction especially if it is
something like soft plastic. What one sees on an x-ray is gas bubbles
on either side of an obstruction. Since he does not have an
obstruction as yet - an x-ray would be an expensive diagnostic test
that would not show you anything.

I have used Cat hairball remedy when I have run out of FerretLax.

Best as Sukie already suggested to watch for signs of an obstruction
developing. A partial obstruction will show as very thin, threadlike
stool. Up the hairball remedy if that happens to a couple of times a
day - 1/2 - 1" ribbon a day.
