Subject: [ferrethealth] Post Adrenal Bruising
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret had her left adrenal gland removed on Thursday morning. How
much bruising is normal to be seen after an adrenal surgery?

She is limited on activity since home not by being kept in a recovery
cage but by her own choice -she doesn't want to move around much. She
was in a lot of pain (teeth grinding, unwillingness to eat, sparatic
whimpers)and is now on pain meds and pepcid...I am hand feeding her
in between her own reaches for a kibble here and there. She does get
up to go to the bathroom and find a new snuggle soft place to curl
up. I am also keeping her warm with the heat turned up in the home
and a heating pad under 2 towels and on the warm setting being
checked every 10 minutes for too much warmth..

The vet kept her overnight on IV fluids.. and I wonder if she was too
active after surgery while still feeling the numbness from being
under and being in a new place (vet hospital) she over did it and was
moving around too much.. I am just worried about the bruising I see.

I also wonder if there is anything else I could be doing for her.
Today her eyes are bright, she is more active..she stopped the teeth
grinding..but the bruising is hard to take in and look at.

It has been quite some time since I had one of my ferrets go through
adrenal surgery and I am trying to remember what is normal and what I
should be alarmed about.
