I am sorry to hear about McKid.=A0 I only had a few thoughts.=A0 I =A0am no=
t sure about your numbers for the anemia, Red cell counts are in numbers no=
t percents. If you are posting percents I am assuming you mean hematocrit, =
or PCV ( packed cell volume).=A0 If that is true, then 8 % is extremely low=
and if he has pale gums, or paw pads, then it is likely true.=A0 Get him a=
transfusion now.=A0 I don't even know if 8% is compatable with life, so it=
may be a false low, but even if really 10 or 12% he needs a transfusion. S=
o, if he doesn't have white gums/and paw pads, then repeat it.=A0 If he doe=
s, ask about a transfusion- it won' t be a cure but...
That will at least buy some time,=A0 if you saw possible blood in his stool=
, that could be the cause of the anemia.=A0 Plus, I don't know about albon,=
but some medications can cause bone marrow suppression.=A0 It may help to =
know his retic count if he is making blood on his own or not.=A0
The glucose may be from stress, I had a ferret with diabetes that was over =
400 at time of diagnosis, an insulin level may help make a sure diagnosis.=
=A0 but not necessary if no glucose in urine, perhaps worth getting a home =
meter to check, especiallly now that he is on prednisone which may then lead=
to higher glucose levels.
Once he is stable, you may want to consider the exploratory.=A0 But in the =
meantime I am hoping he gets better.

Today b/c of how bad he was and the toppling over, we went back down
to vet. He is now anemic (gums looked good 2 weeks ago, but blood
test not done since end of Dec). Surgery cancelled. Dec. 23 red blood
cells were 52.7%, today 8.5%. Blood sugar also 304, but urine glucose
negative.
Why would he suddenly get anemic and develop high blood sugar at the
same time?
