Hello Dr Sue, Uno had xrays done as well as Ultrasound and a fine
needle aspirate done on a small mass by his liver, he also had a
barium done which ran fast but some hung out in the bottom of his
tummy for a day and eventually passed through. His signs were
grinding teeth, blood panel showed low bilirubens, low platelets. We
tried Pepcid, carafate and metro and still he did not want to eat. I
brought him back to the vets for a 2 day stay which he received a
shot of penicillin, fluids and the ultrasound, needle aspirate, etc.
He started to brighten up and even ate some. I brought him home
$1200 later and he ate that night and the next a.m back to grinding,
not wanting to eat. Called my vet and she said to start him on amoxi,
carafate and subq 2x daily which has helped! He is eating and I
caught him eating kibble last night half an hour after carafating
him. (I was getting his soup ready and he beat me to eating). His
urine to begin with was a bright yellow staining color, it is now
normal yellow. I will call my vet tomorrow to see how long I should
subq for. He is also getting 1/8 capsule of milk thistle.
If when we stop subqing and he starts grinding again, I will push for
the exploritory which we were going to do in the beginning but she
felt he had improved and cancelled the surgery and did the
ultrasounds, etc. I will let her know what you have said and see
what her thoughts are also. Thank you so much for the information!
I appreciate it so much!
Eleanor and Uno
