Two ferret knowledgeable vets have told me megaesophagus is extremely
rare in a ferret anyway, and it is more likely esophagitis. <

I don't know how rare it actually is, but several of us on this list
have had ferrets with megaesophagus.

If it is megaE, definitely feed in an upright position, keeping his
neck stretched up, and then try to hold him upright until the food
can get down. It is definitely uncomfortable. You also need to set
up the cage so that he can sleep in a comfortable position. I went
to a craft store and bought a wedge-shaped pillow. It didn't work so
well but did seem to help some. The little girl I got in who had it
was very advanced and didn't last very long. She passed away while
feeding her one day.
