**Well, IME, I have seen megaesophagus more often than esophagitis. The
symptoms you are describing ping all my megaE buttons, I'm afraid.**
He has had two x-rays showing no tumors, an ultrasound showing the
lung abscess, and so many medications. We can't do a barium x-ray
because we don't think he could hold the barium down.
**I would strongly recommend that you reconsider this and do what's called a
barium swallow by mixing the contast dye with some food and getting him to
swallow it right before takling the x-ray. That is, at this point, the only way
for you to find out what is happening when he swallows, whether food is making
it to the stomach or not, whether the esophagus is enlarged and where, and I
think at this point you need to know that.**
