Subject: [ferrethealth] Giving Lupron to a ferret in chronic kidney failure
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Xena goes in for follow up blood work tomorrow to see how she is doing
on her regimen of subcue fluids twice daily, chicken baby food /A/d
mix four to five times a day. and additives (azodyl 1xday, epakitin,2x
day,Fortiflora 1xday).
The clinic reminded me Xena is due for her Lupron. I hesitated when it
was originally mentioned, (thinking pessimistically she might
deteriorate rapidly and it wouldn't be worth giving). However, she
seems stable her coat is better (due to the last Lupron shot I'm
sure)and she is drinking in addition to getting the sc fluids.
Will it be advantageous to go ahead and give her the follow up Lupron?
Presumably there would be no ill effects in giving it? I imagine
although she still scratches quite a bit(would that be due to the
CRF?)that perhaps she feels better having had the Lupron. Does anyone
know if Lupron give the animals a feeling of well being? If it does,
that would be a good reason to continue. Someone on another list
mentioned that even the administration of melatonin implants seem to
make the ferrets feel better because they do have a good coat and do
not have to deal with feeling cold.
