Subject: [ferrethealth] bleeding lethargy and dehydration
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have a 6 year old male that was turned in on Saturday. He eats
Marshalls and was very healthy. He never had vaccinations. He has
never needed surgery and has no history of illness. Today is Monday.
This afternoon we noticed that he is weak and wobbly and when he goes
it just comes out as blood. There was a tarry stool in his cage from
the night before. He has been drinking a lot and still we had to give
him fluids for dehydration. He has a soft lump in his right abdomen.
Our vet has him on Flagyl and Sucralfate. He is not to have any food
but I did make him some soup of his Marshalls in water. He hasn't been
eating anyway. He has been out of his cage and about the house once on
Sunday. We have had other ferrets out for exercise in the house and
none of them have been sick. I am scared for his life and I am
heartbroken. Also, the litter the former owner used was clumping cat
litter. He did have litter on his butt and back feet. We had just
moved him into his new cage Monday morning. We use pine pellets and it
is easy to see the blood. Please give me your opinions. Jean
