Subject: [ferrethealth] Abdomen swelling and bloating-- Please help
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello, I'm new here and could really use your help

We have a 3 1/2 year old female, named Ducky, who has a lot of
swelling in her abdomen area. She was breathing heavily for the past
week, but seems to be doing better now. We took her to the vet to
have her belly tapped last week, but he said it would only swell up
again due to her liver. He believes it would be best to put her to
sleep because there is nothing that can be done to save her.

Her symptoms seem very similar to Cardiomyopathy, but he insists that
it is because of her failing liver. She had her spleen removed two
weeks ago due to its sudden enlargement. The doctor was puzzled as to
why it was completely white, but was sure it was cancer. When we had
a biopsy done, we were told she had adrenal carcinoma and that it was
spreading to her liver. He expected her to die soon after surgery,
but she is actually doing very well considering she is so bloated.

We have her on a prescribed diuretic now, but it hasn't really helped
these past few days. Does anyone know what might be causing this
swelling and if it will go away with continued use of the diuretic.
If so, how long it will take? If this is caused by the cancer, can
anything be done to help her liver heal? Also will diuretics cause
the poop to turn a very dark blackish/brown?

She is such a little trooper and sweetheart, I'd like to do my best
to help her get better or at least get healthier for as long as
possible. Any answers and advice would be greatly appreciated--
alternative treatment suggestions too.

Thank you, Linda

I believe in miracles, so prayers are always welcome
