Subject: [ferrethealth] A question on spaying complications
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi.
I have a question for you, and I really hope that someone has some
advice.
6 months ago my little female ferret Fiona was neutered at a vet who
I know from my past as a breeder of cats. Fiona had a bad
inflammation of the internal female sexual organs.
But what I didn't know was that she knew nothing about ferrets.
When she opened Fiona and operated her she removed ONLY the ovaries
and then closed her up

When I found that out I got angry, because I know that she should
have it all removed to prevent the internal problem from reappearing.
But Fiona's find and I don't think too much about it.

After 6 months Fiona starts having pain again and I'm sure that she
once again has a internal problem. She gets very red in her stomach
and greasy around her genitals.

After a lot of difficulty I get to another vet who really knows about
ferrets.

When this vet opens Fiona she can tell that Fiona's uterus and
intestines have grown together and are the course of her pain.

The ones who operated her the first time must have cut her intestines
by mistake and coursed them to make scar tissue, which has spread to
her entire abdomen.
The vet has to separate it, and manages to separate it entirely.
I am told that Fiona always will be in pain and that there's nothing
to do, but to hope that the intestines do not grow back together.
For all I know there's no cure to this problem??
Do any of you know any treatment to give Fiona to get better?
Unfortunately, I have to put her down if she gets in pain again as I
don't want her to suffer.

Fiona had her uterus removed this time and she is feeling better, but
I can tell that she's still in pain.
That's why I hope that there is a treatment to give, that some of you
know of, so she does not have to be put down, or maybe to give her a
few more years to live.

Yours sincerely
Maria Dyhr.
