Had Linguini in yesterday for vet check. X-rays were inconclusive.
Spleen swollen but not abnormally huge. He couldn't palpate her very
well because it did cause her a lot of discomfort to have her tummy
touched. She does have EGE so he wasn't sure if that was what was
causing the abdominal discomfort.
Most of the padding on her neck was determined to be fat pads,
however, one is definitely a very large, inflammed lymph node.
I asked the vet to check her mouth as well and sure enough she has
really, really bad gums, - oozing puss. Her last dental was in April
2007. The vet thinks its the pred that has caused the gum infection.
She is on Clavamox, Tramadol for pain and continuing with the pred
for the EGE because it is making her feel better, even if it created
the bad mouth condition. Catch-22....
The dilemma we faced was whether to take her into an exploratory
surgery (she's already undergone two major surgeries, plus a previous
dental) or whether to do the dental now and see if things improve
overall. We kicked it around and decided to give her a week on
antibiotics, do the dental and watch her.
My vet isn't a big fan of pred and we are considering other options
without all the side effects of pred. Dex is a possibility. We
talked about Azathiopine but he does not like the risks associated
with that medication either.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or has found other meds worked
with EGE? ALL ideas are welcome.
Thanks a bunch!
Tressie
