Hi, Rita,

> 1) How long does does it take to the drug start kicking in?

Not long at all. With pred and small, frequent feedings her blood
glucose should come up quickly. We use Bob Church's Chicken Gravy at
least twice a day and free feed kibble. Both our present and former
vets like the Chicken Gravy.

> 2)Is this dose too low to begin with?

You didn't provide a concentration so we actually don't know what the
dose is. Our original vet always started at 0.1ml (1mg/ml
concentration) and adjusted upwards or downwards based on retesting
blood glucose. I had one ferret, Lady Ayeka, who only needed 0.03ml to
maintain a normal blood glucose. In Chin Soon's case we had to increase
to 0.18ml.

> increase it within time)

According to our current vet that is a calculation based on body weight.

That is a huge variable. Our best result was with Ker Avon. For him
the surgery was curative. He never had symptoms again. The worst
result was with Kodo who only went four months symptom-free. However,
in Kodo's case the maximum dose of pred and then some couldn't maintain
his blood glucose anywhere near a normal level before surgery. After
surgery even when symptoms returned a very moderate dose was enough to
maintain him. He had his surgery at age seven and a half and lived
about two years after surgery.

All the best,
Caity and the terrific trio
(Ella, Zephyr, and Chin Soon)
