Subject: [ferrethealth] laser surgery and cryo surgery
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I heard from Dr. Dan Johnson who said that he would be happy to share=20
cryosurgery information with other vets. If vets here want that=20
information, please, contact me directly so i can get you in touch.

He recommends the Brymill unit for use after as much debulking can be=20
done by standard means.

Of use:
Dan Johnson, Clinical Use of Cryosurgery for Ferret Adrenal Gland=20
Removal, Exotic DVM 2002;4(3):71=E2=80=9171

Cryosurgery is typically used for the hardest cases rather than as a=20
replacement for standard surgery.

There were brochures I was promised on laser surgery
by someone whose research my husband and I helped
support in the past, but the wrong ones were sent.
Instead of brochures about the laser equipment they
use they sent brochures about the hospital which do
not have such details. So, I am afraid that I don't have
that information to share with our vets or with the FHL
at this time.

Of course, I didn't get a chance to speak with that
old friend with whom I'd lost contact. A member of the
staff contacted me instead and given that she focused
on trying to get us to drive there for surgeries in the
future, perhaps I should not be surprised that try as I
did she still apparently did not understand what is
desired and needed.

Apologies for my failure to get this information at this
time.

So, doing a Google search instead I find bits and pieces which may be=20
useful such as:

http://www.bradleyhills.com/ferrets/surgery/equipment/
which says
> Laser surgery has become more and more popular in veterinary=20
> medicine over the last 10-15 years because of the amazing benefits=20
> it offers our patients. Unlike the scalpel blade, the laser seals=20
> the nerve endings and smaller blood vessels as it cuts, greatly=20
> reducing blood loss. The many advantages of our CO2 laser, which we=20

> Better precision
> Less swelling

Co2 lasers are infrared lasers.
