Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: FreeStyle Lite Meter - how accurate?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I also have the Freestyle mini for monitoring my insulinomic little
guy Merry. It's really great coz it uses such a small sample, we can
just lance his toe and get enough blood for testing. It stresses him
out when our vet has to draw blood from his leg for testing at the clinic.

We'd calibrated our meter against our vet's glucometer and they're
within range of each other. We use it to monitor Mer's BG maybe once a
week, more often if the readings seem low. If his BG consistently dips
below 3.3mmol/ mL (that's about 60 mg/ dL) for a few days, we call our
vet and he'll tell us to increase his prednisone.

Like the moderator said, it's a useful tool to keep track of the
fluctuation of an insulinomic's BG but probably not the best for
absolute diagnostic values. Hope that helps and good luck with Lupi!
