Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Xena: kidney failure : stable, improved BUN, but now problem giving sc flui

When we have had to do it we don't change the position a lot.
I don't know if you have ever had one, but if you have ever had
a large dose of anesthesia into the palate that does something similar
in that the fluid separates some tissues to have space, from
what the oral surgeon told me. If that is similar to sub-cus then the
separation is part of the problem for discomfort and when that
area has been recently separated later separations are more
comfortable. We've had some ferrets who had sub-cus long term
(one of whom got through a serious acute kidney problem in part
thanks to his weeks or months of those injections) and just
alternated sides and slightly changed position to avoid scabs.

You don't want to get near bone on ferrets -- too much chance of
nicking the bones or associated structures.

You should call your vet, though, and can ask about other possible
positions when you describe what is going on. It may be time for
another appointment, or this might be able to be handled by phone.
Just leave a message, and ask for call-back with a description, and
if you know when you can't be available tell them when they won't
be able to reach you.
