Subject: [ferrethealth] My little flower is gone.....
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

When Perla first came to me, I was her baby-sitter. She did not come to me
right away however. At first I just baby-sat her brothers Guille (Gee-Jay)
and Gaston. Her original owners felt that watching four ferrets would be to
difficult, so Perla and Lucas would be baby-sat by the neighbor's.

Shortly after....Lucas starting to come over for sitting services, and
before long I was sitting all four, as Perla alo joined us.....

At first.... Perla did not trust me. She hid all her toys from me, would
not allow me to touch HER THINGS, and did not want to be handled by me. To
make matters worse, a male vet was here to visit and when we did her ADV
test...he clipped her nail a little too low. I thought for sure this ferret would
NEVER accept me.

However.... I didn't realize that Perla had a soft eye for men... Very
shortly after the nail incident...I found her on his lap, batting her eye lids
at him, as he apologized for the short clip! Huh....look at that I
thought....she'Huh....look at that I th
>From that point forward, Perla always flirted with every man that came
over........

When her owners parted ways.... My little Spanish ferrets became mine...as
I could not part with them...they had become my family.

Perla and I did become very close, and although she did not like to show it,
she loved when I would pick her up and hug her and kiss her. She'd always
stay and extra minute for just one more kiss....and loved to be told how she
was "pretty like flower."

Perla was a tiny sable girl...very dainty and petite, however if she wanted
something...Perla was a

If Perla wanted a treat, there was no telling her no. She would tap on my
leg and lick her lips to let me know she wanted one. If I did not
deliver....she would resort to clawing my feet, with the same lick lip...if I STILL did
not deliver...she would resort to going under my desk and proceeding to throw
each one of my books at me....and then lick her lips when I looked at
her.... if her stubborn mommy STILL did not deliver....she would resort t0 pushing
the printer shelf out into my knees.... Needless to say...Perla always won.

Perla was the only little sister that Dusty (who is in Heaven) ever had.
And because of that we called her Dusty's little sista...or just simply
"sista."

She was my Perlina Sunshine....She was my Perlina Sunshine....<WBR>and we
Sometimes I just called her the Perl Girl.

Until a month ago today....Perla was my youngest, healthiest ferret.... She
went to the vet on Feb 4th for a hardness in the belly, which led to surgery
and a diagnosis of High Grade Lymphoma.

Perla made an amazing recovery from surgery.....Perla made an amazing
recovery It was discovered that in less than a week, the tumor that had to be left
behind had grown alot, and she would need treatment before recovering fully
from surgery.

My Perly was a fighter...so we started a combination treatment of Oral
Chemo, and Prednisilone, with one round of IV chemo. At firsrt she did pretty
well, but within a week....she started to limp on her hind leg, which led to
limping on both legs, and then loosing the use of both legs..... it was
suspected that the cancer had spread to the spine.

Still the fighter...Perla, who was 100% litter box trained, refused to soil
herself. If she had to go and could not make it to the pad on her own...she
would let mommy or grandma know that she needed assistance..If she did not
soil herself...because she was such a little lady.

Despite our fight....the cancer continued to grow at a rapid pace.... Perla
took a drastic turn for the worse this Monday, and began to no longer find
happiness in the people and surroundings that had previously comforted her.
By Tuesday she was slipping away....and she had lost all interest in food....
It was discovered that the cancer had spread to the chest and bone.

Mom had hoped to provide a Natural Hospice Death, but when feedings and
supportive care had become a discomfort..Mom had hoped to provide a Natural

This Month would have been Perla's sixth birthday... the night before she
passed, Mom sang happy Birthday to Perla in both Englsih and Spanish...(as she
understands English, Spanish and Japanese from her previous owners).

As we made our journey to the vet to find peace.....we listened to her
favorite CD "The Lion King."

Mom held Perla in her pink princess bed, wrapped in her pink princess
blanket that had come to comfort her during her illness.....Mom held Perla in her

Perla's mommie's heart holds a large emtpy space, for such a tiny little
brave girl, who filled her mommies life with joy. She will never be forgotten.

Mom told Perla that she put up a brave fight, and that mom was proud of
her....
She told Perlly that she did not lose her battle w/cancer...but rather ,she
had Won...because she was going somewhere wonderful, where the cancer could
no longer follow her.....

Please keep my Perlina Sunshine in your hearts and prayers.....in Her mom
and brothers miss so much, it is unbearable.

Rest in peace my sweet angel....mommies little flower... mommies
sunshine....m

I love you.
