Hi Cindy,

I am sorry you lost little Pogo.

I know it took you a while to post about her, because you are
understandably upset about losing her, however, there are pieces missing
in the information you provided.

You asked whether she should have had a transfusion. Her hematocrit
indicated mild anemia, not normally an indication for transfusion. I
don't see the PCV - was this done as well? Perhaps one of the FHL vets
will comment further on the lab results...

I am still unclear from what you posted what the final diagnosis was?
An abscessed tooth? Did she develop sepsis? Was a necropsy done?

In terms of whether you made the correct decision or not, I think as lay
people we do depend a great deal on the guidance from the knowledgeable
professionals we consult with. True we can educate ourselves but bottom
line is that it is our veterinarians who should and generally do guide
our decisions. Vets of course are human and even the best is not 100%
correct, 100% of the time. I like to think that any treatment decision
is a team decision between you and the attending veterinarian. Both are
working towards the benefit of the patient, but sometimes the patient is
so ill or the choices very limited that there is no right choice.
There is no error when you've run out of options.

Again I am very sorry for your loss : (

Hugs,

Tressie
