Hi Judy,
The one thing that really jumps out at me from your description is that Lucas is experiencing 'extreme' pain and I didn't see any pain meds listed in your post. It would affect his appetite, his breathing, heart rate, his stool and everything else.
I suspect the hair loss on the nose area is from rubbing his face in his bedding (a pain response), acting angry is also a pain response. This little guy has got major pain happening, which needs to be managed in order to get a sense of what his true clinical picture is. Whether it is his gut, chest or whatever.... treat the pain first. Once he calms down you'll get a better idea of where things stand and what might be the source of his pain.
