Tressie,

Thanks so much for your response, I do hope all is well with you and yours.

I see that an Hemocrit at 31.98% listed. What was told us, that there were basically no platelets, as we see 7 with a range of (300-800) and a white blood count of 0.88 with the range of (5.5 - 19.5).
He felt with these numbers Pogo was bleeding to death. That the bone marrow had shut down.

The vet said if we did anything, it would be a transfusion that would give us about 3 days and then we would need to repeat it again if thinges were not better. He did not feel that there really was much of a chance. I can not believe that I did not use any knowledge or sense I had to act differently.

The only thing stated was the thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and grave prognosis - I do not even see a cause of death.

We did not do a necropsy, I asked the vet about it and he felt it would be an expense that would not be necessary?????? Not sure where my brain was on that one either.

I am reading this and feeling as if I am sounding like a person that does not have a clue on how to care for ferrets. I can not believe that it seems as if I was not even thinking like an owner of many shelter ferrets as well as my own. I just do not know what happened.

I truly believe this had not been caused by biting into an electric cord.

Thank you for your response Tressie,
Cindy

I do hope that I hear from some of the vets or others with knowledge here, as maybe they can better explain to me what could have or should have been done. I do not want to email some of them privately - so hope they will take the time to offer some learned experience and knowledge.
