Hi Cindy,

I do hope some of the vets post. I'm not sure they scan regularly, so a response may be delayed.

If Pogo had nonregenerative anemia, which is what it sounds like, I think your vet was correct.

I'm not clear on what else you think should have been done? I don't think even chemo would have helped much with total bone marrow failure. I am more familiar with human oncology and short of a bone marrow transplant and continuing blood transfusions the prognosis is very poor indeed. Given all the symptoms, especially the neutropenia, if she were human this would probably have been classified as a leukemia. I think the mouth sore may have been the tip of the iceberg and not the source of the problem but a sign that there was systemic breakdown.

I believe it is very difficult if not nearly impossible to be objective about our own fuzzkids. It is why physicians do not treat their own family members - lack of objectivity. I don't think the knowledge disappears it just gets muddled up with the emotional investment we have for our own. Its too much in your face to see it clearly. That is why very knowledgeable and experienced people post about their own fuzzkids on the FHL - to gain an objective overview.

Sometimes responding to questions others have brings further insight into our own situation. The knowledge comes together and there's that "Aha" moment.

I really am very sorry you went through this with your sweet little fuzzkid.

Hugs,
Tressie
