Subject: [ferrethealth] re: sneezing ferrets

The pasteurella was diagnosed through a trachea swab, then cultered for
sensitivity. My boys I had tested both tested positive for pasteurella
and strep. Both are sensitive to baytril and when that doesn't work
well enough I give doxycycline oral - they like the raspberry flavor of
the doxy and is much easier to give orally.

For administering the Sinus Remedy (Peaceful Mountain) nose drops I rest
them in my arm, laying slightly slanted against left arm, scruff
lightly with left hand and drip one drop on the top and side of the
nose - the drop drips down into the nostril and they breathe it in.
The head doesn't need to be tilted back because of the natural curve of
the nostrils. I do one nostril at a time giving them a chance to
breathe normally in between. They sometimes sneeze or snort so a
gentle caution to keep your mouth closed... (it's a wonder I don't get
it!! ;-))
