Well, it is not definite one way or the other as far as I know, so I'd guess unlikely but maybe possible. I'll see if I can find more.

The reason I answer that way is because when the newer form of ECE (a coronavirus) first appeared in ferrets it behaved so much like FIP that it actually had to be studied to see if it was a mutant from FIP or from ECE. The answer is ECE, but until that was known from extensive work at Michigan State the possibility that it was a mutant of the feline disease was certainly among the considerations.

I guess it boils down to: this is something that you can't consider impossible.
