Subject: [ferrethealth] Parker's Periodontal Problems
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

We got a new foster kid today, Parker, who has a lot of problems. We will get him to our vet ASAP, but until then, we can't just leave his teeth and gums as they are, which is horrible. There seems to be some gum disease, but the extent is unclear, as there is also a lot of tooth decay and tartar.

Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swab to clean the teeth and gums as much as possible? We have used Biotene veterinarian antiseptic oral gel twice so far today to gently clean his teeth and gums as much as possible, but I was wondering if hydrogen peroxide might be better. He also has some sort of cyst or tumor on one side of his jaw, near where it hinges. Any ideas on what this might be? It's about the size of a large pea, under the skin.

Thanks for any ideas or advice on these two problems.
