hello, my name is david, Im new to this list, and have been meaning to post before now. I am a ferret daddy, sadly I lost one (the male of the pair) to tumors on his pancreas, liver and spleen, in november. His decline was very quick. His cagemate, sashaa is doing very well, and adjusted very well to his parting. However she has developed a swollen vulva, which I learned is indicative of adrenal desease. I took her to the vet last week, and he pronounced her a perfectly fine, (if not tiny) speciman of weasel.
I live in Phoenix Arizona, and as such it gets damn hot here. I used to live in a small apartment with my two ferts, where they had free range privildges, except for nite time, when I had to tuck them in because thud was a notorius toe biter. During the day, they would find their own dark hidey places and I kept the room temp in the mid seventies, and always had a fan going. Since then, I have had to move in with my mom and uncle (I am 53, and they are both nearing eighties and not in the best of health) as a caregiver. They both have dogs, and one gets along decently well with sashaa, while the bigger dog wants to eat her, so she spends most of her time in her cage in the closet, which I keep well ventilated. She doesnt seem to mind as with most ferrets, she snoozes the majority of the time. She generally comes out to romp in the evenings for a couple of hours, and she is non stop energy, but she lets me know when she is ready for bed again. She does like going outsid
e to play in the yard, but I limit that activity to the cooler times of the year. I never take her out during the summer months when the temps get as high as 115 degrees.
