Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Vaccination reactions
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I've had ferrets for 18yrs now,and at one time or another they all had a
reaction to the distemper vaccine, even with all the precautions and
seperating and only giving the one. In my opinion this set up the ferret
for future health issues. Even after successfully giving for years, out
of the blue they woul have the anapholatic reaction, and I would have to
leave them there for a while, not knowing if they would survive. I have a
six month old,named peanut,and he's my first ferret in 18yrs,that I
chose after studying and weighing my options, decided not to vaccinate at
all.... I give him the best ferret foods available,a mix of 3,as well as
meat eggs ect.,and raw milk,to boost his immune system. I respect
everyones decision to do what's best for the ferret, but for me,its not
worth it... I think all these vaccines and medications, and big pharma in
general,is the cause of sooooo many health issues for people and our
animals.... Deb

[Moderator's note:
The normal reaction rate is something like 2%.
So, this raises two questions:
1. Are these all closely related ferrets?
Reacting can run in families, and it certainly is
possible to have human families where all or many
have anaphylactic reactions, so probably possible
with other species.
2. Are you perhaps lumping the normal responses
(the sick signs that just show that the immune
system is being educated) with anaphylactic reactions
(which cause things like total collapse from dropping
blood pressure, rapid fluid loss through colon, dramatic
swelling of mucus membranes...) ]
