Is it right that ferrets will only have adverse reactions (obviously not
necessarily) to a vaccination if they had the vaccination before? Or, in other
words, will they definitely be okay when they get a vaccination for the first
time?
**Nope. The very first time they get ANY vaccine, whether it is distemper or
rabies (or both!) they will not react as they have not been sensitized to any
of the components of the vaccine. After that, they can react to any vaccine
that contains a component they have been sensitized to - and that can be
preservatives, etc.
The only time I vaccinate my ferrets at home, for this reason, is the very
first time they get any shot - after that, off they go to the hospital with me.**
