To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I'm wondering if anyone has any data or personal experience with vaccinating their ferrets for distemper every 18 months rather than every year, and whether that might reduce incidence of adverse reactions. I have read several past posts that suggest that the Purevax distemper vaccine MAY provide adequate coverage for 18 months. This is inconclusive, but I am leaning toward taking this path with our vaccinations. I do not vaccinate for rabies, as it is not required where I live, and the incidence of it in ferrets is so low that the risk is not worth it for our ferrets, in my opinion. But I am curious about anyone's experience with 18 months between distemper vaccinations, good or bad.
