The Dexamethasone is 2 mg/ ml and Parker is getting 2 drops, 2 times daily. He doesn't go back to the vet for 2 weeks, and in the interim, it's hard to know if this dosage is helping his insulinoma, as his energy levels and over all health are also compromised by several other issues.

Subject: [ferrethealth] Dexamethasone vs. Prednisolone for insulinoma
We have a foster ferret, Parker, who was put on oral Dexamethasone (2 drops, 2 times daily) for insulinoma, diagnosed from a blood glucose reading of 59 on Monday. I have used Prednisolone in the past for insulinoma, but this is a different vet who apparently prefers the Dexamethasone. I'm wondering if it is as effective for insulinoma as Prednisolone, and if 2 drops is an adequate dosage. Are there any benefits to using Dexamethasone? I do not have a blood glucose testing kit here to monitor his levels, and Parker has so many other health issues as well that his energy levels and behaviour alone are hard to attribute only to his BG levels.
His age is unknown, somewhere around 4 or older, and he also has adrenal disease, very bad periodontal disease, and enlarged lymph nodes due to periodontal infections. He also has severe weakness in all four legs, and we are working to strengthen them. In addition to the Dexamethasone he is on a 2-week regimine of amoxicillin. His appetite is huge for our high-protein soup and he's putting on much-needed weight while increasing strength to his limbs.
