Some past posts:

and here are some others

There are more, but it sounds like:

The effect of the dex sometimes was weaker,
sometimes stronger, perhaps partly because
doing the dose control by drops may have
been too variable or perhaps the dosing was
wrong since the one vet post says it is less
valuable for raising blood glucose. Can you
get your vet to figure a more reliable measurement
and supply the proper syringe to measure it?

It has been used long term in some ferrets who
did fine.

Some vets mentioned the possibility of more
side-effects and some seem to have mentioned
fewer, so my suspicion is that each may have
had concerns about specific side effects for
different ferrets depending on their own medical
histories.
