Subject: [ferrethealth] two topics: soft fur vs. rough fur and insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi All,

I have a question. I have three ferrets, Snickers (female, approx. 5 yrs.), Piper (male, approx. 1 1/2 yrs), and Gizmo (male, approx. 1 1/2 yrs). I keep comparing Piper to Gizmo, but I found that Piper's fur is softer than Gizmo's fur, plus Gizmo is a frequent itcher. Recently, Piper has gotten very territorial and wants to be the dominant one, as Gizmo was the dominant one when I first got them a year ago. None have ear mites, as I have already checked that out with the vet. (They were treated for ear mites last year.) Can anyone explain why Gizmo's fur isn't as soft as Piper's fur? They all get their favorite treats of ferretone and N-Bones equally. Snickers has been diagnosed with adrenal disease for 2 years now and recently insulinoma. She has been put on prednisone (.2ml) twice a day and she goes back to the vet next week on Wednesday. She got 2 lupron shots already (a month apart) from the vet. I think they are planning on giving her 2 more. I'm not sure of
the dosage, but it is helping, because she is eating a lot more than she used to, but is still not active enough, especially when compared to the other 2. She just lays there (after 30 minutes of play) when I let them out at night to play for 2 hours. They all seem to get tired after 1 1/2 hours. Gizmo stays awake the longest for some reason. He is always exploring something. Gizmo is also a biter. He especially likes toes and ankles. He doesn't bite as often anymore, but when he does, he gets a squirt of water and runs off. He also doesn't like using the litter bin by the door where the gate is and goes between them. Any help would be appreciated.
