Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with ongoing diarrhea since Dec.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hello all,
I have a little guy who has been crippled since about 10 weeks of age. But for right now he has been having problems with diarrhea off and on since December. Yesterday he went to the vet and he has decided to treat him as though he has colitis. We are hoping for the best. Knowing if it is lymphoma of the colon there is nothing to do to save him; and the vet feels his age and condition would make him a NOT so good candidate to go in and take a biopsy. Anyway the vet gave him a injection of a drug I am hoping that someone on this list knows more about. The drug is Convenia. I believe the vet said it would continue to release the antibiotic for 14 days. Any information of use of this drug in ferrets and the good and or bad effects anyone has had with it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Missy
[Moderator's Note: Convenia is Cefovecin, a semi-synthetic,
broad-spectrum antibacterial agent from the cephalosporin
grouping of chemotherapeutic medications.
