Subject: [ferrethealth] Minka took a bad fall...anyone have any ideas?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Minka is our 4 year old little girl...14oz little. She has insulinoma, but it is not very bad...it is kept under control with diet and exercise. Today she fell out of her hammock (about 6 inches max) and started raring back and squealing uncontrollably. My daughter picked her up and brought her to me. I only had her a couple minutes before she became completely paralyzed! I thought she was gone, but she is still breathing, heart beating, and trying to move around...just very lethargic, no control over her bowls/urine, and not moving her back end. The vet said that there isn't much he can do and told me to feed her Carnivore Care by Oxbow. She will drink, but she does not want to eat anything...not even her favorite, peanut butter. Does anyone have any suggestions/experience with this? I just want her to be as comfortable as possible.
Thanks!

Diet and exercise do not control insulinoma.
Isn't the ferret on Prednisolone (or Dex for
some) and possibly Diazoxide as well? Those
medicines are needed.
Was her blood glucose level checked? Were
x-rays done in case she did land wrong and
get injured?
What you describe sounds like she perhaps
had a seizure from the insulinoma. See:
