Subject: [ferrethealth] de-scented ferret isn't ?
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Female ferret, BeBe, 9 months old, confirmed Marshalls with ear tats, papers.

Yesterday at our education event she was involved in a *getting to know you* tussle with another ferret.

BeBe let loose with a poof that would put any breeder, non de-scented ferret to shame, and I have smelled that too.

I searched the archives some, and will search more.

We need to know what to advise this new ferret owner.

One thing I am not clear on, are the scent glands that were supposedly removed the same as anal glands? Could this ferret release this odor if the *scent glands* were removed, or are we dealing with a botched removal.

The owner seems OK that the ferret may or may not do this again, but I feel we need to advise her to watch for any possible infection, swelling, etc.

She also expressed concern that if the de-scenting was botched, she may not have been spayed.
