Subject: [ferrethealth] Snoopy's weight
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have two ferrets and they both had a small cold but quickly recovered. However, Snoopy has lost quite a bit of weight to the point that his rear hind quarter area is bony like he is malnourished. He does eat so I'm wondering if there is something else that I should be looking for. He still sleeps a lot and seems to tire easily. Otherwise he's very alert and playful. Any help would be appreciated.

[Moderator's Note:
Ferrets don't get that rhinovirus so they don't get colds
but they do get other things that can look like colds
but can be more serious or can lead to hidden secondary
infections that may require chest x-rays to find.

Time for a vet visit. The problem may not be related
but sudden large weight loss below normal weight
ranges is always a worry that needs veterinary care.
