Subject: [ferrethealth] 5yo barely eats or walks, sleeps all time - Can I try Carafate?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello all.

I have a mistery here and would like to hear you thoughts.

5yo male with insulinoma, two partial panacreas removal surgeries, no splee=
n (also removed). Insulinoma is well controlled by a daily dose of Dexameta=
sone. Recently he is very laid back. Barely walks, barely eats, sleeps all =
the time, lost 10 to 15% of his weight. Blood work did not show anything wr=
ong, veterinary examined him (a very detailed exam) and also said he seems =
ok, no pain, no suspect mass in the abdomen. As he has had liver issues bef=
ore, we started him on Silybum marianum, which is intended to protect the l=
iver, just in case. And also thinking of stomach issues we doubled his dose=
of Omeprazole to control de stomach acids, now he takes it twice a day. Al=
though it seems that none of these are the problem: ALT is 122 so it=B4s co=
nsidered normal (apparently no liver issues) and he eats well when we give =
him food in our hands (so apparently no stomachache).

Can anyone think of anything different?

I started thinking of giving him Carafate. How much should I give? How many=
times a day? I know it interferes in other medication so I can not give it=
together with Dexametasone, Omeprazole or Silybum marianum. How much time =
do I have to wait before (or after) giving him other medication after (or b=
efore) Carafate?

Thanks a lot
Alessandra
