Glaucoma itself has a different approach.
In fact, some steroids are avoided with most
types of glaucoma except short term after
surgery.

At least one past post goes into meds used
in ferrets:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/

The classes of meds used in humans with
glaucoma types (varying according to type,
level, other problems such as asthma or
cardiovascular disease, and what works in
the individual since that varies) are the
following which are listed to cross ref with
the past FHL posts on treated ferrets with
glaucoma:
Adrenergic
Alpha Agonists
Beta Blockers
Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors
Cholinergic (Miotic)
Prostaglandin Analogs
and there are 2 drops which combine two types
of above meds
because you can look up the current meds for their
names in
http://www.glaucoma.org/treating/medication.php
to cross reference with the past FHL glaucoma posts,
and because you will see that none are antibiotics
or steroids.

It may be that the med was prescribed to avoid ocular
hypertensionwhich in turn sometimes leads to glaucoma.

Glaucoma involves high ocular pressures
in some types though not all, but always
involves damage to the optic nerve. So, the
thinking may be that avoiding ocular
hypertension would decrease the glaucoma
risk.

It's also possible that the ferret may
also have an eye infection.

Cataracts sometimes wind up located so that
they block drainage. That is also a concern
for lost pigment.
