Definitely test for distemper to be
safest, and keep the ferret and yourself
away from any animals who get canine
distemper while the cause remains
unknown.

but realize that if this is distemper then
it is an extremely serious disease that is
usually fatal.
What is the vaccine history of this ferret?
There may be some resistance remaining
from a previous vaccine. Did it have just
the farm shot or did you provide the 2 later
kit distemper vaccines and the later rabies
vaccine?
Certainly the problem may be something
else and hopefully it is, but you do need to
test for the serious things and that means
a distemper test for this little guy.
